Just a sac.

I went in for an ultrasound today. The doctor's calculations (according to my LMP) had me at 5 weeks, 5 days.

The sonographer did find a single sac, nestled in the top of the uterus, but it's measuring only 4 weeks and 4 days. There's no fetal pole. Nothing. A small cyst on my left ovary.

I usually ovulate around day 16-18, so I wasn't terribly surprised if it had been 5 weeks 1-2 days. But 4 weeks 4 days? What does this mean???

The doctor on call at the sonography center gave me directions to come back in two weeks "so we can see the heartbeat then" but of course, my fucking doctor is out of the office and I'm unable to find a single shred of positive information online.

So terribly afraid.

I wish I could answer your question regarding what does it mean. Each sonographer is going to measure a little differently. Each machine's quality if different. Consider that at this early stage there's a couple days give/take in measurements and couple that with your later ovulation could mean that everything is as it should be and is normal.

The only thing I would do if I were you is demand a f/up scan sooner than the two weeks your doctor ordered. There's no reason you can't get some more definitive information.

I'm sorry, April, because I know how scary this is for you and if I could make it better, I would.

That was my first impression, that 2 weeks is a long time to wait.

I am so sorry about the news, but will keep hoping for you.

What a rollercoaster ride! I don't think that all hope is lost - if your beta today was as you were expecting? then based on this article http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=pubmed&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=2660539&ordinalpos=2&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum I think your u/s wasn't any different from what would be expected. It's possible it was just late implanting? I am going to keep holding out hope for you!!!

It could be you ovulated late. If you think about it the date that they are predicting and the actual measuring date of the embryo can be different.

I ovulated a week early so that puts all of my measurements and dates a week ahead. Otherwise, if I hadn't know the date of ovulation, thanks OPKs, they would have thought something was wrong with this baby due to measuring bigger then LMP dates.

Still sending good thoughts, I'm not singing, so you are still ok. ;)
